Still a great read! The Jalna saga is a wonderful soap opera, recounting the life of the Whiteoak family from the late 1800s to the 1930s. Mazo de la Roche has such a beautiful way of describing the landscape as well as the family members that after a couple of the books, you are there in Ontario, experiencing life in the great north. I read all of Jalna about 60 years ago and decided to reread the whole series (16 books). It has aged well and it is pure joy and fun to read it again. A great way to spend the evening in winter.ebarret@sbcglobal.net

I started reading these books way back in the early 1960s. Got them on so I could re-read them. By today's standards, they are very tame although they have adultery and complex teen in them. Very good series, plan to get the rest when I can.
The second in the series is as good as the first 4. These books are a delight to read and if you like dynasty books, you'll love these.
The books follow on from one to another and follow a family called the Whiteoaks makes very good reading you feel as though you know them all by the time you finish
Start with Jalna Books 1-4, She was a celebrated author both here & Canada where the books take place. Wonderful characters and interesting plots.
